The period between December and January is peak Koala breeding season!! Koalas generally breed between September and February and peak from December to January. The bellowing calls of the male Koala have been compared to a Lion’s roar. Female koalas can breed from about two years of age. The gestation period usually lasts around two months, producing one young koala a year. The Koala is listed as Vulnerable in NSW and Nationally. The Hawks Nest and Tea Gardens Koala population is listed as Endangered. Swamp Mahogany and Tallowwood are favourite trees utilised by this Koala population. Broad-leaved Paperbark, Blackbutt, Red Bloodwood, Flooded Gum and Smooth-barked Apple are also utilised.
