Terrestrial, Aquatic & Marine Ecology

Terrestrial Ecology

Wildthing Environmental Consultants ecologists have developed extensive experience in a broad range of terrestrial ecosystems enabling us to specialise in a range of landscapes and ecological communities. These communities range from highly-impacted urban remnants to remote highly vegetated areas. Our ecologists have also gained significant experience dealing with threatened ecological communities, including Critically Endangered Communities. Wildthing Environmental Consultants is also skilled at tackling small sites to large scale complex sites.

Wildthing Environmental Consultants ecologists are experienced at designing and undertaking a range of terrestrial ecological survey and monitoring programs for a range of requirements and are able to tailor assessments based on your needs.

Aquatic Ecology – namely aquatic macroinvertebrate sampling and water quality testing

Wildthing Environmental Consultants ecologists are experienced in freshwater and estuarine ecology and are able to provide a range of aquatic assessments. Water quality testing and monitoring involves sampling the waterbody either in a one-off event or over a period of time depending on the requirement of the project and comparing the water quality parameters to Australian Standards.

Freshwater macroinvertebrate sampling involves netting and identifying macroinvertebrates. Wildthing Environmental Consultants is able to assess the health or condition of a waterbody based on macroinvertebrate presence as they respond to many kinds of pollution, including chemical pollution and physical disturbance to the landscape around a site, wetland structure, and hydrology.

Wildthing Environmental Consultants ecologists are also experienced at attending dam breaching events for various development projects where we capture and relocate aquatic fauna such as turtles, eels and fish.

Marine Ecology – namely benthic fauna assessment and polychaete taxonomy

The Wildthing Environmental Consultants team includes a marine ecologist that has an extensive research career in benthic fauna assessment and polychaete taxonomy. The composition and abundance of benthic faunal communities is an excellent and accurate indicator of marine ecosystem condition.

Wildthing Environmental Consultants is able to sample and monitor benthic fauna to the taxonomic level of genus and polychaetes, a segmented marine worm and sensitive indicator of marine health, to the taxonomic level of species for a diverse range of projects.
